1. Emergency Responders (Tier 1)

Roles: First aid, search & rescue, triage
Required Classes:

  • Basic First Aid & CPR (Red Cross, American Heart Association)

  • FEMA IS-100.C: Introduction to Incident Command System

  • FEMA IS-700.B: National Incident Management System (NIMS)

  • Stop the Bleed Training

  • Basic Fire Safety and Evacuation

2. Demolition Assistants

Roles: Structure takedown, debris handling
Required Classes:

  • OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification

  • Demolition Site Safety 101 (internal training or local certification)

  • PPE and Equipment Use Basics

  • Intro to Tool Safety (Jackhammers, Sledgehammers, Power Tools)

3. Hazard Response Volunteers

Roles: Mold, asbestos, biohazard handling
Required Classes:

  • HAZWOPER 24 or 40-Hour Training (Hazardous Waste Operations)

  • Bloodborne Pathogens Safety Course

  • Confined Space Awareness

  • Respirator Fit Test Certification

4. Logistics & Supply Coordinators

  • FEMA IS-26: Guide to Points of Distribution (PODs)

  • Forklift Safety Certification (if operating heavy equipment)

  • Driving & Loading Safety 101

5. Drone Operators

Roles: Aerial survey, search & assessment

  • FAA Part 107 License

  • Drone Safety and Data Management

  • Map Reading and Recon Basics

6. Volunteer Medics

Roles: Support injured volunteers, minor field care
Required Classes:

  • CPR / AED + First Responder Course

  • Wilderness First Aid (for remote areas)

  • FEMA IS-240.B: Leadership and Influence (recommended)

7. Communication & Coordination Officers

Roles: Dispatch, field coordination, public updates
Required Classes:

  • FEMA IS-242.B: Effective Communication

  • Radio Operation Training (Ham/FRS/GMRS)

  • Disaster Psychology Basics

  • Crisis Communication & Social Media Management

8. Psychological First Aid Volunteers

Roles: Mental health triage, peer support
Required Classes:

  • Psychological First Aid Certification (offered by NCTSN or Red Cross)

  • Trauma-Informed Volunteer Training

  • FEMA IS-366: Planning for the Needs of Children in Disasters (optional)

9. Builders & Rebuilders

Roles: Restore damaged homes, seal leaks, board windows
Required Classes:

  • Basic Carpentry Safety

  • Tool Use & Ladder Safety

  • FEMA IS-386: Introduction to Residential Coastal Construction (optional)

  • Roof Safety & Tarping Techniques

10. Digital Support Crew

Roles: IT setup, apps, mapping, donations, CRM
Required Classes:

  • Cybersecurity Awareness

  • Crisis Mapping Basics (OpenStreetMap, ArcGIS)

  • CRM Software Training (depends on tools used)

  • Nonprofit Digital Tools Training (Slack, Airtable, Trello, etc.)
